CABLE MAPPING

To detect and locate any imminent failures on medium voltage cables LIVE HV can conduct On-Line PD testing using split core High Frequency Current Transformers (HFCT) while the cable remains live.

The HFCT’s are either placed around the cable earth strap or the insulated phase after the earth screen has been taken off.  There are certain earth pre-requisites required to conduct On-Line PD testing of cables.  Please contact us to discuss these.

With the most advanced testing technology LIVE HV can now also provide On-Line PD cable mapping when discharge is occurring in a cable. HFCT sensors placed at both ends of the cable and a pulse is injected into the cable when a discharge pulse is detected. By calculating the time difference between the original discharge and the injected pulse it is possible to determine the exact location of the PD.
